Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood

Today's excursion was amazing and started with a quick photo stop at the "church on spilled blood". I kept thinking the guides were simply not understanding English grammar ('on' versus 'of').

But it is indeed church ON spilled blood. The church was started in 1883 on the site of the assassination of  Emperor Alexander II.  Thus ON spilled blood.

We only viewed the outside today but are supposed to get to see the interior tomorrow as it apparently has incredible mosaics.

In the meantime, here are two pictures of the beautiful exterior...

As you might imagine, there were hundreds of tourists outside, but one group and their photographer was particularly noticeable.....

They were originally holding a sign.....so still not sure if this was a bachelorette party....or models....or.....?
